Breed of the Month - White Park!
While I may seem to be totally cow crazy, I must confess that cows are NOT my favourite animal!
That distinction belongs to giraffes, which I love because they are tall, graceful and have lovely dots all over. They also have the most comical faces and terrific eyelashes! My giraffe page link will take you to a site about the giraffe centre founded by Betty and Jock Leslie-Melville, and several other giraffe sites. If you are interested in animal conservation in any way, please visit the Giraffe Centre.
However, since I am known all over the Internet for my passion for all things bovine, this site tells you a little something about them. And about me too.
Whyever not?
Cows, like giraffes, have lovely dots, cute noses and comical faces. It's also quite easy to find cow-collectabilia! I have about 200 cows in my collection, not including cow wearables.
It is generally accepted that cows were domesticated by humans between five and ten thousand years ago, after sheep, goats, pigs and dogs. Earliest remains of domestic cattle date to about 6,500 BC. They were the most useful animals to early man, providing meat, milk and labour to their owners.
Today there are about 250 distinct breeds of cattle in the world. My favourite site for cow information, Oklahoma State University, has information and pictures of all breeds. It's from this list that I choose the Breed of the Month!
There are thousands of cow sites around the world. I couldn't even begin to create something new, fresh and original, so you should click here for my list of cow links. Special mention to Cows of Prince Edward Island, an ice cream and clothing chain started in the land of Anne of Green Gables, that is now opening stores across North America.
That would be me - Angela Lukach, aka angie, aka The Cow Goddess.
I was born in Kapuskasing, a small paper mill town in Northern Ontario. A nice young man named James Cameron was also born in Kapuskasing. Maybe you've heard of him. He directed this little picture called Titanic.
I now live in Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. For more information about this lovely city, click here. Our apartment faces northwest straight up the Rideau Canal to the Chateau Laurier and the Gatineaus beyond.
When I'm not counting my cows before they're hatched, I spend too much time playing on the net. I am a newsgroup junkie and have met dozens of people across North America thanks to the group soc.singles.moderated. You can meet some of the *snigglers* [as we call ourselves] here. I also participate in rec.sport.skating.ice.figure [which is not for the weak of heart, nor the skating newbie], some crafting groups, alt.redheads and the Palm Pilot groups.
Being a child of the 60s, I'm also a television junkie. My favourite current shows are Angel [how *could* you WB?!?], Crossing Jordan, 24, ER, Law & Order and its spin-off shows, the CSIs, Third Watch, and The West Wing.
I have two sisters. Melanie is a linguist, writer, editor and belly dancer and makes wire and bead jewelry, and spends a lot of time spinning and knitting.
Frankie is a bank manager here in Ottawa. She's been married to Gerald for over 30 years and they have two children, Shannon and Graham.
My father, Bill Lukach, Jr., died three years ago - his memorial page is here.
I love my computer! If you are a Macintosh devotee, you'll understand. If you aren't, I urge you to take one out for a test drive. You'll be impressed: honestly.
My favourite Macintosh links are located here. And I read many of the groups in the Usenet hierarchy, comp.sys.mac.*.
There's so much more to write. But I shouldn't wear out my welcome with those of you who drop by the Palace for tea. Do come again.
